Towards Political Holiness: Know Your Faith, Know Your Rights
In his book, Spirituality of Liberation, Jon Sobrino defines political holiness as a commitment to justice and the liberation of the oppressed as an essential part of Christian spirituality. He argues that holiness is not just about personal morality or individual piety but is deeply connected to structural realities and the struggle for a more just society.
Political holiness means actively engaging in the world, standing in solidarity with the poor, and working to transform unjust systems. This concept aligns with liberation theology’s broader emphasis on faith as a means of social transformation, where following Christ involves a preferential option for the poor and a willingness to confront oppression.
This training is for anyone who wants or needs to know how to respond to ICE raids, detentions and arrests.
Training Goals:
Explore what catholic and Christian liberative theologies call us to when it comes to threats to the safety and well-being of the people around us, and how crucial it is that we put our faith into loving, informed action right now.
Learn the rights of immigrants of all documentation statuses when confronted by law enforcement raids, searches, arrests, and detentions.
Receive practical training on responding to ICE, and how you can train your parish or community in rapid response.
